The whole tooth and nothing but the tooth....

...so help me God! So the first tooth is on its way into Alex's little mouth. So let it be known that she is not the happiest camper in town. A recap of my weekend is something like this.

Friday: My hubby was gone at Guard duty for the weekend. I settle down with Alex so we can enjoy some time together. She was starting to fuss so I rubbed my finger along her gums (this has seemed to work lately because I knew the teeth were coming soon). Then it happened...she bit me...and there was more there than her little gums...there was a tooth...sharp little thing, I thought it was going to pierce through my skin. This was later in the evening so I rubbed some Baby Oragel on her gums and it seemed to help...off to baby dream world she went. Then came Saturday......
Saturday: First, I want to thank god for grandparents (the kind that come to help you out when you truly need help). Those are the kind of grandparents that we are blessed with. 5 am, Alex is up and not terribly thrilled with being awake. So I fed her then she calmed down and we read some books together and played with some of her toys. It was a wonderful morning with her, lots of smiling and laughing...then the shit hit the fan. I put her down for her morning nap which never really became a nap. She was up every 15 minutes crying because her poor little gums hurt. I felt so bad for her as there is nothing I can do to help (there is only so much Baby Oragel a child can have in 24 hours). Then it got better...she calmed down, ate and then was playful again. There was some intermittent crying but nothing major. By this point she was running me ragged. I had to be entertaining her all the time. I was exhausted and in desperate need of a shower. So down she went for her afternoon nap. Everything was fine after 15 minutes...so I turned on the monitor and jumped in the shower. Big mistake.....she was up within a few minutes and the tooth was really bothering her. I tried to calm her down but nothing would work. I am running around like a crazy person in my bathrobe, dripping wet with conditioner in my hair. A little over an hour later, the grandparents arrive...thank god. I am standing there with Alex (who is screaming) in my bathrobe, now with dried up conditioner starting to form a crust in my hair. And off they go, Granny, Gramps and my little angel (who is still screaming) in her stroller for a walk. The walk put her to sleep and I was able to finish my shower. The rest of the day was the same. Lots of ups and downs but we got through it. She fell asleep in time for me to enjoy most of the Buckeyes game.
Sunday: First, we are off to a family reunion (which I did not know about until Friday at 9pm, because my Granny, in her old age, forgot to tell anyone about the function). One word to describe this event...interesting. I just wonder how I am related to some of the individuals that were present. We return from the reunion and pack up stuff to head over to Granny and Gramps for Grandparent's Day. Alex and I baked a cake (strawberry cake with cream cheese frosting....yummy) that morning just for the occasion. They were able to enjoy some time with a much happier Alex. It was a great end to an otherwise hectic weekend.
One question I have is, why all the teeth don't come in at once. Or maybe in two rounds, have half of them come in one week, then the other half can follow. It seems like a tragically slow process.....hello evolution......do you have an answer for me.
Oh and BTW, shit always hits the fan when my hubby is away. That is how my life works.
